In the spring of 2007 Saint Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church opened the 39th Lutheran Outreach Center for the Blind in the nation. We have just celebrated our 8th anniversary in April of 2015, we have had about 20 blind people join us and are operating with a steering committee of 3 blind individuals and the Pastor. They meet monthly and plan the events.
The center offers free home cooked meals to the Blind on the last Saturday of every month at 5:00 P.M. The meal is preceded with a Bible study starting at 4:00 P.M. led by one of the Blind members. After the meal the group enjoys a variety of seasonal fellowship events form 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. The evening concludes with a Vesper service in the church sanctuary.
If needed, we offer free transportation to the events within a reasonable distance form the church. Sighted volunteers have been wonderful in providing this service.
The group has also enjoyed other events outside the normal monthly events such as Christmas Shopping Trips, a Retreat and Christmas Feast.
